Supporting and educating patients and families on the intestinal failure,
intestinal rehabilitation and intestinal and multivisceral transplantation journey.
Dental Care
It is important to receive regular dental care and cleanings after your transplant as poor dental health can lead to infections and increased morbidity and mortality.
Prior to and after any dental work or cleanings you will be required to take prophylactic antibiotics to reduce the risk of contracting an infection from the procedures. You should contact your transplant team in advance to obtain a prescription and guidelines for proper preventative procedures. You should also inform your dentists and dental hygienist of your intestinal transplant and what medications you are on, including steroids and other anti-rejection medications, as these can affect gum and teeth health.
